China wants more power in the world

China calls for a new world currency and greater influence in the International Monetary Fund IMF. "The price of China will save capitalism is a shift of political power eastward," according to analysis Gavekal.

Last Monday suggested the Chinese central bank Governor Zhou Xiaochuan of the U.S. dollar should be replaced as the world currency. His proposal is that an old instrument IMF, Special Drawing Rights, to replace the dollar.

While China claims to be doubtful to inject capital into the IMF, the country's voting power is not increased. A reinforcement of IMF is considered by many essential for resolving the global financial crisis.

It has also expressed concern for their gigantic dollarlÄn to U.S. government. China fears that inflation in the U.S. is taking off in the U.S. sedelpress makers now is booming. Prime Minister Wen Jibao suggests that China's appetite for U.S. assets may decline if the U.S. is acting irresponsibly.

It is also rumored that Wen Jibao in a telephone call to President Obama have accused the Americans to waver in its crisis management.

Additional events that have shaken the relations between China and USA are the Chinese authorities' veto last week against Coca Cola bid for Huiyuan Juice and a demonstration of power between the warships from both countries in the South China Sea.

China may be positioning for the G20 meeting in London April 2, but probably see the country an opportunity to fill a power vacuum in the West, writes analysis Gavekal house in a market letter.

"China may very well save capitalism. But the price is a shift of political power eastward," writes Gavekal.
